Louisiana Purchase / Student Free Choice

Louisiana purchase is a treaty that was signed on the date of April 30th, 1803. The US purchased the western part of US stretching from Mississipi River to the Rocky Mountain. It was bought from France for approximately 11.5 million dollar USD for the land. The reason why France decided to sell Louisiana is that Napoleon I lost most of his men from yellow fever. In order to defeat Great Britain, he has to raise funds by selling Louisiana to US. Later followed by the Louis and Clark Expedition. The crew was named the Corps of Discovery and the purpose of that expedition is to explore the western part of US. Their journey started during 1804 and ended on 1806.
